Brisbane Terminal

DP World Brisbane's facilities are at Fisherman Island Terminal at the mouth of the Brisbane River. The Port of Brisbane is the largest in Queensland and the fastest growing port in Australia. The site completed a comprehensive $250M upgrade in 2014 and is the first of our terminals to become semi-automated. The Fisherman Islands Terminal is a dynamic 7-day, 24-hour operation that offers variety and represents an outstanding opportunity to grow as a professional in Australia’s Logistics and Supply Chain industry.

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will be responsible for the daily execution of the terminal operations in a safe, productive and cost-effective manner. You will be focussed on exceeding our customer and business expectations, whilst leading and developing your team of supervisors to excel.

Key accountabilities

This role will have a visible presence in the business. Your leadership will drive results with your team as it works towards meeting the business’s objectives. Amongst other duties, you will be responsible for:

  • The management of the Operations Supervisors including providing direction and coaching on their daily operational responsibilities to meet our customers’ expectations.
  • The performance management of all direct reports including identifying performance gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead by example in the execution of safe work practices and ensure full compliance with WHS&E statutory requirements.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for the operational environment to improve terminal results.
  • Ensuring compliance of all relevant policies, procedures and processes.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and improvement to meet budgets and targets for the terminal and operations.
  • Ensure effective deployment of the team to meet operational deliverables and achieve greater productivity.
  • Work in partnership with the National Planning Centre and Customer Care Team to achieve or exceed customer satisfaction targets.

Experience, skills and qualifications

You will be a senior logistics professional with substantial experience in terminal operations within transport, maritime or stevedoring industries. You have strong leadership and management experience within the container or bulk ports sector or similar industry. In addition, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications within business, engineering, logistics or other relevant fields or equivalent operational experience would be highly regarded.
  • Substantial experience in leading/managing a team of shift workers  
  • Industrial relations management experience in unionised environments
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to the receipt and delivery of cargo
  • Knowledge of terminal yard, vessel operations and capabilities of cargo handling equipment
  • Detailed understanding of legal obligations, commercial and contractual issues relating to stevedoring operations
  • High level of computer literacy, competent in the use of terminal, vessel and yard planning and control systems

You must have the ability to:

  • Motivate, develop and lead a team to positively contribute to business goals and objectives
  • Manage conflict including people management matters in a resilient and emotionally intelligent matter
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business systems, services, outcomes and in generating creative solutions for business problems and work practices
  • Communicate and negotiate effectively with a broad variety of stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications within business, engineering, logistics or other relevant fields or equivalent operational experience.
