Brisbane Terminal

DP World Brisbane's facilities are at Fisherman Islands Terminal at the mouth of the Brisbane River. The Port of Brisbane is the largest in Queensland and the fastest growing port in Australia. The site completed a comprehensive $250M upgrade in 2014 and is the first of our terminals to become semi-automated. The Fisherman Islands Terminal is a dynamic 7-day, 24-hour operation that offers variety and represents an outstanding opportunity to grow as a professional in Australia’s Logistics and Supply Chain Industry.

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, the Day Shift Operations Supervisor is responsible for the planning, direction and control of the operations in order to achieve customer requirements within a safe and cost-effective manner.

The successful applicant must demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and the ability to manage and motivate others to achieve outcomes for the Company and our clients in a pro-active, efficient and timely manner.

You will generally be working 42-hour week on day shift, Monday to Friday with occasional overtime or night shift coverage as required.

Key accountabilities

As the Day Shift Operations Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrate proactive leadership in safety and delegation skills ensuring safety requirements are managed and delivered via frontline operations management
  • Direct and control the physical activities of vessel and road exchange, ship arrivals and departures
  • Review terminal performance, enact contingencies and corrective actions
  • Communicate, resolve and respond to customer queries
  • Ensure that labour is utilised effectively on a day to day basis including prioritising for an efficient and cost-effective operation of the Terminal
  • Manage performance and policy adherence by employees on shift to ensure compliance and accountability as per company requirements
  • Ensure that all personnel under their control perform their tasks in achieving daily operational requirements as per company requirements and be accountable for all direct report’s performance in line with shipping schedules and business demands
  • Complete a shift report during and at the completion of the shift to ensure a summary of the shift outcomes are clearly articulated to the business
  • Forecast and report on daily performance and statistics
  • Monitor, oversee and report in accordance with established procedures any security issues or potential security breaches
  • Act as Deputy Port Facility Security Officer as required

Experience, skills and qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Minimum 2 years’ previous experience in either transport, maritime, marine or stevedoring operations
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage workloads, work autonomously and as a member of a team so that timely and effective results are achieved
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership of a team and achievement of business KPI'S and targets
  • Proven ability to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business systems, services, outcomes and in generating creative solutions for business problems and work practices
  • Utilise standard industry computer packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge and experience in terminal, vessel and yard planning and control systems (eg. Navis Sparcs Yard Planning System and Express Equipment Control System)
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to the receipt and delivery of cargo
  • Thorough knowledge of terminal yard and vessel operations and capabilities of cargo handling equipment
  • Effective customer service, verbal and written communication skills as well as planning and organisation skills
