Brisbane Terminal

DP World Brisbane's facilities are at Fisherman Islands Terminal at the mouth of the Brisbane River. The Port of Brisbane is the largest in Queensland and the fastest growing port in Australia. The DP World Brisbane site completed a comprehensive $250M upgrade in 2014 and is the first of our terminals to become semi-automated. The Fisherman Islands Terminal is a dynamic 7-day, 24-hour operation that offers variety and represents an outstanding opportunity to grow as a professional in Australia’s Logistics and Supply Chain Industry.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Tradesperson (Fitter) to join the Maintenance team at our Brisbane Terminal. Reporting to the Maintenance Execution Superintendent, the Mechanical Tradesperson (Fitter) is responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment and machinery to an engineering standard, ensuring safe and reliable operation at the Brisbane Terminal.  Equipment includes Quay Cranes, Diesel Electric Shuttles, Electric Automated Stacking Cranes, and various other machinery and infrastructure.  Brands of equipment include Kalmar, ZPMC, Flender, Dana, Sisu, Volvo, Bromma, Bubenzer.

Variable Salaried Employees (VSEs) work a non-fixed roster to support the maintenance needs of the business and are guaranteed a minimum annual salary, set out in our Enterprise Agreement. They must be reasonably available for most shifts but have a degree of flexibility. 

Key accountabilities

  • Ability to undertake routine and repetitive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure equipment breakdowns are responded to and addressed in an appropriate time frame.
  • Ensure workplace safety considerations are taken into account when undertaking all maintenance tasks.
  • Undertake mechanical repairs and refurbishment to the required standard.
  • Conduct regular planned mechanical maintenance and repairs.
  • Source spare parts and technical information required to undertake maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Utilise the computerised maintenance system Maximo to source store stock and work order information.
  • Ensure the shift hand over is provided to the shift supervisor in a timely manner prior to the shift completion time.
  • Ensure all equipment is left in a safe condition and is fully tested before returning into service.
  • Perform the Relief Shift Supervisors/Leading Hand role when required.
  • Perform housekeeping in compliance with Company standards to maintain clean and safe work environments.
  • Ensure compliance with safe work practices, procedures and policies.

Experience, skills and qualifications

  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship with an appropriate trade qualification for example Mechanical Fitter.
  • Extensive experience as a tradesperson undertaking fault finding / diagnostics and mechanical repairs of heavy fixed plant and mobile fleet.
  • Previous experience in mechanical maintenance procedures in a workshop and/or heavy industrial environment.
  • An understanding and appreciation of equipment functionality and service requirements.
  • An understanding of manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Competent with the use of maintenance management software applications.
  • High attention to detail and an excellent work ethic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Safety critical attitude to work.
  • Ability to work irregular day/night shift engagements including weekends.
